Have you ever felt overwhelmed, exhausted and undervalued by the situations and relationships you give your time and energy to? Or that your kindness, sensitivity and creativity have not been understood, valued or reciprocated? Perhaps you have struggled to recognise your own needs and find the energy to fight for them? Do you find it difficult to recognise and protect your boundaries and say 'no' when you want to? Have you struggled with anxiety, depression, loneliness, frustration or grief?
About me and my practice
If any of the above reflects some of your lived experience, then I can offer a supportive space in which my aim is to help you feel understood, seen and heard, building a strong therapeutic relationship to facilitate your self-exploration and personal development.
Hi, my name is Sam, I am a UKCP registered integrative transpersonal psychotherapist. I'm glad you are here and looking for support with the challenges that life is presenting you with.
My main focus tends towards working with individual adults who might experience themselves as sensitive, creative and preferring to live life in a way that differs from convention.
As above, your challenges may include trying to live in a world that does not feel like it is set up for you, or can even feel hostile to you. This may be compounded and heightened if you experience yourself as any combination of being a sensitive person, on the introverted side of the scale, neurodivergent, or just different from others in your own unique way. Maybe the rules and conventions of the systems and contexts you find yourself within doing seem to make sense or space for you to be who you feel you really are?
Working together in therapy, we can make space and time to help you dig into and make sense of your experiences. From this foundation of developing greater understanding, we can consider and try relevant ways of managing and being with the challenges you face in life. Simultaneously, we can work to uncover strengths you may have been unable to connect to due to life getting in the way. This can help to build a sense of empowerment to make changes in your life - to move towards a greater sense of living authentically and finding a greater degree of balance and fulfilment, in whatever shape that takes for you.
Psychotherapy can be a long process is not a linear one. It can be broken into chunks, focussing on one challenge at a time, with breaks - whatever feels right for you.
Experience
If you might be interested in working together -
I offer sessions on a one-to-one basis with adults (18+) online via Zoom.
In terms of my experience - I have worked with adult clients of varying ages (late teens up to retirees) and backgrounds, with a range of presenting issues from depression and anxiety, addiction issues, grief and bereavement, identity issues, sexuality, existential concerns, big life changes, chronic and acute health issues and a host of others.
My background was mainly in music education and care provision, prior to training for and moving into psychotherapeutic work. I spent many years working with people in SEND and mainstream schools, care homes and hospitals. This set of varied experiences has given me a broad understanding some of the diversity of peoples' lived experiences. I am however always learning, open to understanding more about new ways of being, committed to continuing professional development, ethical practice and a client-centred approach.
To add to my experience of what others go through, I also have my own first-hand experience of living through and with acute and chronic illness, which I bring as further perspective to understanding my clients' struggles.
